This mixed-use building is the first project carried out by MAD Architects, the firm of Ma Yansong (Beijing, 1975), in the United States. Located in Beverly Hills, at 8600 Wilshire Boulevard, the 4,460-square-meter complex named Gardenhouse presents a shopping area at ground level, surrounded by a living green wall, and above are eighteen residences in irregular white volumes, under pitched roofs.

Along Stanley Drive, the entrance for residents evokes a cave, and they are led to a water feature visually connected to the landscaped courtyard above, which in turn is surrounded by the balconies of the homes.
