Casa Battló in Barcelona is set to inaugurate a new exhibition space on its second floor on 31 January 2026. For the first time, this level – all of 230 m², closed for decades – will welcome the public, turned into a gallery of contemporary art engaging in dialogue with Antoni Gaudí’s legacy. Designed by the Barcelona firm Mesura, the intervention stands out for its balance of heritage preservation and current architectural language.

The transformation respects surviving original elements, such as joineries and stained glass. The most audacious gesture is a metal ceiling with curves, screen-printed with concentric ripples simulating the effect of a drop of water falling on a calm lake. Developed with robotic technology, it defines the new gallery’s visual identity, but also resolves its structure in both a poetic and a functional way.

Originally used as a residence and later for conservation purposes, the renovated floor takes on new life as a meeting of architectural memory and contempotary creativity. Its opening in 2026 coincides with the centenary of Gaudí’s death.
