The French firm Dominique Perrault Architecture, in collaboration with the South Korean office Junglim, has won the international competition for the construction of ‘Light Walk,’ the future intermodal transport hub and shopping center in Seoul’s Gangnam district. With a total area of 167,000 square meters, the Gangnam Intermodal Transit Center will include a station for four new railway lines, the extension of two metro lines, and a bus station. The purpose of this airport-size structure in the center of Seoul is to create connections and links instead of boundaries.
The project has an urban scale and engages in dialogue with the Han River, its Tancheon tributary, and the nearby mountains while accommodating many activities: commercial spaces and venues for collaborative work, art studios, galleries, and workshops. A 32,000-square-meter park, The Green Land, will be created at ground level which is bound to become the new hub and lung of Seoul’s international center.
Construction work is expected to be completed in 2023. Dominique Perrault Architecture
