Henning Larsen

Situated within a picturesque fjord and protected against the Atlantic’s harsh winds while offering views of the neighboring islands, Klaksvík is the second-largest town in the Faroe Islands. The firm Henning Larsen was commissioned to design an urban plan for it that included the KlaksvÍk Row Club, which celebrates a national sport that uses traditionally built wooden boats included in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Taking from vernacular construction, the building presents a sloping green roof and a timber facade, seeking to strike up a dialogue between the built environment and the scenery of fjords. The 620-square-meter clubhouse features a boat storage area, spaces for training sessions, venues for events and exhibitions, and a spot for coffee breaks.
