Multisport center in Tarbes

IDOM

In Tarbes, a commune in the Occitanie region of France’s Hautes-Pyrénées department, the firm IDOM – directed by Inés López Taberna, Iñaki Garai and Gohar Manrique San Pedro – transformed a building used in the early 20th century for the military industry into a multisport center. It is 125 meters long and 85 wide, the central nave rises 20 meters, and the lateral ones 13 meters. Under a sawtooth roof, the polychrome spaces are flooded with overhead light. The project pursued the idea of preserving the nave’s original character. Colors define the zones for different activities: track and field, basketball, handball, badminton, and rock climbing. The new program also requires a foyer, dressing rooms, federation rooms, and offices. These are marked by a yellow element that in turn forms two large rock-climbing walls, the highlight of the project’s central space.
