The Lujiatan Wetland Park Commercial Service Center, designed by MUDA-Architects under the direction of Lu Yun, is situated in Wenjiang District, Chendu City. The environs of the Jinma and Minjiang inspired the fluid and rhythmic forms of the complex, which reinterprets the riverscape through the abstraction of fluvial meanders, in a contemporary architectural language. Hence the building – which is multipurpose, harboring spaces for business and leisure – respects the ecological richness of the site.

Drawing from the concept of pavilions in traditional Chinese gardens, the ensemble presents curves that fuse with nature by means of white metal panels, wood, and glass, aiming to give the impression that the structure ‘floats’ on the water. The design uses several strategies for respecting the original ecological context, including the resort to prefabricated components.

One of the project’s stand-out elements is the observation tower, which rises in a double spiral that pierces through the passable rooftop. The scheme seeks to offer an architectural experience that highlights the building’s relationship with nature. The modular structure reorganizes the spaces by encouraging visitors to explore and connect with the surroundings, while the simplified paths improve accessibility.
