The Wooden Cabin Town in Jiujiang

Parallect Design

Southwest of Jiujiang, in Jiangxi Province, China, is this complex consisting of 19 prefabricated cabins, a multifunctional hall, and a 24-meter-tall observation tower. The Chinese firm Parallect Architecture Studio received the commission with no real program specifications, so the main requirement to consider in the course of the project was flexibility, which would allow different uses to be accommodated.

Raised over the ground, the volumes with pitched roofs are inserted into a lush forest of cork oaks, the trees determining the boundaries of the constructions. Three types of pinewood modules, and anti-corrosion treatment, can be distinguished, the multipurpose pavilion being the largest. The tower presents a steel structure covered with wood grille designed to reduce wind resistance.
