The Dutch firm Mecanoo and the Chinese Meng Architects, in collaboration with LOLA Landscape, are the winners of the international design competition for Shenzhen Guangming Scientist Valley. The ambitious project aims to establish the first comprehensive national science centre in the Greater Bay Area spanning Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, attracting researchers and innovative talents from around the world. Situated amidst the Lian Tang Reservoir, the Lou Village Reservoir, and the valley space between them, the complex benefits from its prime location, surrounded by mountains and water.
The plan incorporates a diverse public activity program known as '1001 Forest Gardens' and three interdependent components: a public loop, a research center, and a natural perimeter layer. Encompassing an area of approximately 1.2 square kilometers, the Shenzhen Guangming Scientist Valley is designed as a series of linear wood structures with green roofs and interconnected circular pavilions.
