Located in Jagged Rock Vineyard in Oliver, British Columbia, the heart of Canada’s winemaking region, the Red Barn Winery stands out amid rows of vines and rock formations because of its distinctive red tone, which serves as a beacon. The object was to reimagine a building in disuse. Additions to the existing barn expand the functional space and mirror the agricultural character of its form.
A doble-height production facility takes up one side of the building, with garage doors and windows that let daylight in and give views of the landscape. The metal storage tanks and concrete ‘eggs’ for wine conditioning underscore the functional program of this zone.
On the other side of the winery, a visitor center gives a peep into the winemaking process. Upstairs, a tasting room with glass-walled sections looks into the production area. The guest-oriented spaces present neutral light colors. In some places, the red-painted steel cladding extends inside.
