The Guadalupe Valley is a winemaking region located in Ensenada, in the Mexican state of Baja California. Here, within the Banyan Tree Veya hotel complex, the Pictograma winery presents twelve radial walls and 22 vaults arranged around a central courtyard.
In a reinterpretation of local architecture, the circular composition with a radius of 25 meters combines concrete and mud bricks. Trapezoidal walls border the areas for tasting, bottling, aging, and barrels, as well as those that contains the fermentation tanks and laboratories.
With the exception of the access zone, the whole project is surrounded by a perimeter slope covered with vegetation, in such a way that one cannot see the inside from outside. The radial walls hold up two rings with brick vaults that absorb the project’s geometry: the smaller ones are located indoors and the larger ones outdoors. These vaults have a mixed finish on their outer faces, while the material is left exposed inside.
