Everything that happens in life happens on what already exists, and it cannot be any other way in architecture, which is inevitably born from life. Yes, we architects build over the already existing. Our interventions sometimes take place in untouched, virgin territories; other times, on vestiges; still other times, on clearly manifest built structures. These situations seem different, but are not that different if we remember that whatever we do, our action modifies the equilibriums of the system upon which we act. But when we speak of the existing, we refer not only to that which has an actual physical support, but also to culture, history, memory, knowledge, experience, emotion, and even the hidden, the invisible, the not evident...
