The artist Stephen Walter (London, 1975) uses drawing as a research tool to study the cultural residues that inhabit our landscapes today, creating an intricate panorama of personal and collective experiences. Each one of his maps, painstakingly detailed, is a world on its own, a complex collection of words, symbols, drawings, and doodles through which Walter expresses his own experiences and personal concerns or critiques. The recently published book The Island. London Mapped is an atlas-like in-depth study of his own city, and one of his most prominent projects.
