Born in Valencia in 1930 and recently deceased, Juan Genovés lived through the horrors of the Civil War during his childhood, an experience which marked him forever. His commitment with the anti-Francoist resistance led him to join postwar collectives like Los Siete (1949), Grupo Parpalló (1956), and Hondo (1960), developing a very personal style, distant from informalism and highly combative. In 1964 he signed a contract with the Galería Marlborough, which would bring him international attention and last his whole life. Completed in 1976, the most famous work by Genovés, El Abrazo, has become a symbol of Spanish democracy and a manifesto for reconciliation...
