Heringer, Facility in Bangladesh

30/09/2020

In the village of Rudrapur, located in the Dinajpur Disrtict of northern Bangladesh, the German architect Anna Heringer – in conjunction with Veronika Lang and the non-profit organization Dipshikha – recently completed a therapy center for people with disabilities and a workshop for Dipdii Textiles, a clothes-making project for local women. Carried out with the active participation of villagers and disabled people, the facilities are a reinterpretation of vernacular construction types and present two principal features: a winding ramp on one hand, and a series of rectilinear elements that strike a contrast with it. As always in Heringer’s works, this one makes use of local and sustainable materials and skills, especially walls of rammed earth, a solution which simplified execution of the geometry of the complex.
