The death of Fray Francisco Coello de Portugal – or ‘Fray Curro’, as his architect friends called him – wraps up another brilliant chapter of the splendid book that the members of the generation he belonged to, with their works, wrote; a story writ in stone sure to be read by generations to come, and which without sentimentalisms or dramatisms is almost complete. Carvajal’s star died a few months ago, and now too that of this indefatigable fighter, gone to occupy his own place in the firmament, towards which he looked all his life, seeking to serve, as both architect and Dominican, Him to whom he knew he owed everything...
