The french architects Denis Brillet, Benoît Fillion and Pascal Riffaud created Block, an experimental design office, in the city of Nantes in the year 2000. Award-winners of the Nouveaux Albums de la Jeune Architecture in 2002, presented by their country’s Ministry of Culture, the team is working on different professional fields that go from artistic creation to urban design. The complex of single-family houses, raised over the course of three consecutive periods that include three different building types, goes up in Les Herbiers, a municipality of the French department of Vendée. Arranged in rows in front of the Jardin du Grande Fief, all of them have two stories, private garden and a transition space on ground floor that is to serve as a garage but that can also become a small covered courtyard.
