Kärdla City Pavilion

Bornstein Lyckefors

Observance of the 100th anniversary of Estonia’s declaration of indepedence included an international competition to revamp the central square of the city of Kärdla, on Dagö Island. Bornstein Lyckefors Arkitekter and Mareld Landscape together worked out a pavilion around the concept of the hortus conclusus or enclosed garden. This container of space and landscape presents a timber structure. The pieces that wrap it form a wooden fabric, with a pattern paying tribute to Kärdla’s textile tradition.
