Columbarium complex at municipal cemetery of Radom

The municipal cemetery of Radom dates back to 1957 and is currently among Poland's largest. It was to curb this necropolis's rapid expansion into surrounding woodland that a columbarium, with its more compact burial form, was built. Combining prefabricated concrete elements and stone claddings, the 2,000-niche facility breaks up into blocks varying in height, arranged around courtyards and a large central square. This creates more intimate spaces. Inside each chamber and along the corridors, light fixtures are embedded into the pavements, emphasizing the linearity of the routes.
