Chapultepec Center for Environmental Culture in Mexico City

Part of the second section of the Chapultepec Forest in Mexico City, this environmental-culture center presents a pavilion surrounded by gardens that reference the diverse ecosystems and natural landscapes of the Cuenca del Valle de México: temperate forests, pastures, wetlands, and rocky-ground vegetation. Carefully integrated with the existing flora and topography, biocultural promenades traverse the urban forest in spiraling paths, the curves converging in the exhibition pavilion. With its semi-conical geometry and stone cladding, the building is intended as just another feature of the landscape. The roof evokes the volcanic terrains of the Pedregal de San Ángel (Mexico City). The interior space is flexible, designed to accommodate and explore different exhibition concepts, giving visual transparency towards the two exterior fronts.
