Quzika 1865 Winery in Tibet

PL-T Architecture

In the small Tibetan village of Quzkika, in Markam County, this enological complex with a gross built area of 8,334 square meters is embedded into terraces. At the foot of Dameiyong Snow Mountain, near Lancang River, the winery blends into the natural environment dotted with grape vines and century-old walnut trees. Taking advantage of the topography, the stepped formation also features a museum, a restaurant, and a reception center.

The complex is built with locally sourced stones, which help regulate indoor temperature thanks to the insulation they provide. Water slides from the mountaintop down to the Lancang, accumulating and evaporating to expose salt deposits. This saline effect has been recreated by the Chinese firm PL-T Architecture – founded by Wang Jianfeng and Li Fei – in the Quzika 1865 winery, where water flows on the roofs at different heights, resembling pools and producing solar reflections that give rise to changing dances of light and shadow.
