The Counts de Puñonrostro Foundation has unveiled its project for the refurbishment of a building it owns at Calle Dauíz 16 in Segovia. It had served different purposes in the past (including for a caps factory), and been abandoned in recent decades.
Drawn up by Alicia Gutiérrez de la Cámara (Segoviarquitectura), the renovation scheme was worked out with the aim of transferring the archives of the Counts of Puñonrostro to Segovia and making room for a permanent exhibition on the family’s history.
The gallery zone is organized in two levels and two volumes. The building on Calle Daoíz, where the main entrance is, will maintain its overall structure and original architectural elements, such as the Romanesque portal and the pointed Gothic arch inside. The one behind – built in the 20th century to accommodate the factory, which will be gutted to create a diaphanous space with the structure of an arcade – will organize its two stories around a central courtyard. The lower floor of this rear building, entered through the Travesía de las Canonjías, will have different uses, among them as a deposit for the archives of the Counts of Puñonrostro.
