Extension of Liljevalchs Konsthall in Stockholm

Wingårdhs

On the island of Djurgården, close to Stockholm’s city center and Skeppsholmen Island (location of Rafael Moneo’s Moderna Museet and Arkitekturmuseet), Liljevalchs Konsthall has a new wing. A work of the Swedish practice of Gert Wingårdh, the rectangular concrete block presents a sculptural roof perforated by 166 skylights that brighten up the interior generously. The annex provides the institution with extra space for exhibitions, a second entrance, a store, and a café. The facade was designed in collaboration with the glass artist Ingegerd Råman. The composition formed by 6,860 bottle ends gives rhythm to the outer skin.
