The British Museum has announced which teams will be competing in the next stage of the international competition to renovate its Western Range galleries, an ambitious project of reimagining over a third of the London institution’s gallery space. The west part of the complex currently harbors the Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome collections in 15,650 square meters. The spaces vary in age, from original buildings of the 1850s to additions like Galleries 10 and 22.
The five shortlisted teams are led by: 6a Arquitectos; David Chipperfield Architects; Eric Parry Architects and Jamie Fobert Architects; Lina Ghotmeh; and OMA. Their proposals will be displayed in the museum’s Round Reading Room in December and the winner is to be announced in early 2025. Among the members of the jury is the Irish architect Yvonne Farrell.
