The six works distinguished in the latest cycle of the triennial Aga Khan Award for Architecture have been announced. Their authors will share a monetary prize exceeding a million euros. Instituted in 1977 and given by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), the award has consolidated over the years and become a benchmark for architecture in the Islamic world and for quality constructions executed with local resources. The jury – which includes Francis Kéré and Anne Lacaton – has from a pool of 463 nominated projects selected these six: Urban River Spances, Jhenaidah (Bangladesh), by Co.Creation Architects; Community Spaces in Rohingya Refugee Response in Teknaf (Bangladesh), by Rizvi Hassan, Khwaja Fatmi, and Saad Ben Mostafa; Banyuwangi International Airport, Blimbingsari (Indonesia), by andramatin; Argo Contemporary Art Museum and Cultural Centre, Tehran (Iran), by ASA North; Renovation of Niemeyer Guest House, Tripoli (Lebanon), by East Architecture Studio; and the CEM Kamanar Secondary School, Thionck Essyl (Senegal), by DAW Office.
