Several Works
Unveiling hidden talent and x-raying the complex geography of the Islamic world has been the purpose of the Aga Khan Architecture Award since 1977. The prizes, characterized by their ecumenical character, have managed to bring East and West closer beyond the persistent orientalisms, and always with a strong commitment with society. Hence, the Aga Khan Award cycles have gathered local and international architects; the juries have been composed of star-architects but also historians; and they commend the aesthetic aspects of the projects as well as their ethical and heritage value. The brand of the prize is clearly recognizable in the six works chosen in the 2022 edition, all of them scattered across the cultural geography of Islamic countries: Urban River Spaces, Jhenaidah, by Co.Creation Architects; Community Spaces in Teknaf, by Hassan, Fatmi, and Mostafa; Banyuwangi Airport in Blimbingsari, by Andramatin; Argo Contemporary Art Museum, by ASA North; Renovation of Niemeyer Guest House in Tripoli, by East Architecture Studio; and Kamanar Secondary School in Thionck Essyl (Senegal), by DAW Office.
