In the 1980s I studied art history and philosophy in Germany in the hope of becoming a curator. After four years of university I was eager to experience the reality of a curator’s work and was introduced to a gentleman who offered me an internship in the museum he was conceiving at the time, the Vitra Design Museum. In the end, I got the marvelous opportunity to take part in the making of this museum from scratch, together with six colleagues. Taking care of correspondence, dusting objects, writing captions and texts, discussing layouts, calculating expenses, or unloading trucks – everything I did was new to me and often criticized for not being good enough. As I had expected, work was hard, but I loved it, and after a year of internship it was hard for me to go back to uni to write my thesis...
