The latest Cruise collection imagined by Virginie Viard, unveiled shortly before her departure as creative director of Chanel, was presented with a film protagonized by Marion Barbeau and the Ballet National de Marseille, in which they dance through the spaces of Le Corbusier’s Cité radieuse. The runway show, held on the roof of the Unité, featured clean pieces in tune with the building erected by the Swiss architect between 1948 and 1952, recovering the bond between the House and seaside cities through the Cruise collections. It was Coco Chanel herself who in 1919 created a mid-season collection at her Biarritz boutique to be worn by her regular clients ideally on yacht cruises or at resorts. Though these collections were set aside in the 1950s, Karl Lagerfeld resumed them in 1983 and turned them into a must.
