The German artist’s body of work places him within the field of materic painting, an abstract line that emerged after World War II, characterized by the use of a variety of objects juxtaposed with organic materials such as sand or ash. Anselm Kiefer’s installation at the Palazzo Ducale in Venice is the centrepiece of the fifth edition of MUVE Contemporaneo. The series, produced specifically for the space, invites visitors to remember that these new paintings emerge through the annulation of those they cover – paintings commissioned to the greatest Venetian artists to rebuild the Sala dello Scrutinio after the fire of 1577 –, and will disappear when the exhibition ends...
