The Museo ICO presents a monographic exhibition on the work of the German architect Anna Heringer and her deep interest in the sustainable development of our society and built environment. Through the use of local materials and techniques, she seeks to help strengthen individual and collective confidence by supporting grassroots economies and pursuing ecological balance.

A selection of Studio Anna Heringer’s most representative works treats visitors to a journey through Bangladesh, China, Morocco, Europe, Ghana, and Zimbabwe, in the course of which they can have a close look at textiles crafted by Bangladeshi women on which the floor plans and elevations of the buildings are embroidered; a diversity of texts including the Laufen Manifesto, instigated by Heringer herself; and a collection of photographs, drawings, and models detailing the main projects carried out by Anna Heringer since 2006, among them the Meti Schools in Bangladesh, the Hostels at the Longquan Bamboo Biennale in Baoxi (China), the altar for St. Peter’s Cathedral in Worms (Germany), and the Eco-tourism facility at Cortijo Donaira in Ronda.

The exhibition ‘Anna Heringer: Essential Beauty’ is on view at the Museo ICO through 8 May 2022.
