Visitable through 14 July at Vigo’s Porta do Sol is the temporary pavilion ¡Qué faena(r)! (What a Task!), the design for which won the ideas competition for the third TAC! Urban Architecture Festival, organized under the auspices of Spain’s Housing and Urban Agenda Ministry (MIVAU) and the foundation Arquia.

The scheme drawn up by the architects Óscar Cruz and Pablo Paradinas made reference to the bateas, the traditional wooden platforms installed in the sea for fishing which are so much part of the territory and local economy. Tradition and innovation linked up thanks to the involvement of local producers and artisans in the process. A team of carpenters of Fran Millán and Frouma Atlantic Wood built the pavilion’s structure with wood from actual bateas, and the net-like covering was crafted by Galician designer Amala Puga in collaboration with Redeiras Atalaia of A Guarda, an association of women who make and repair fishing nets.
