The Soprintendenza Speciale di Roma commissioned Lorenzo Zandri and Luca Pozzati for a temporary installation that would serve to conceal the restoration work going in the courtyard of Palazzo Mattei di Giove, designed by the architect Carlo Maderno and erected in 1598, in the Italian capital.
Called BassoRilievo, the project is integrated into the historical environment, drawing inspiration from surrounding constructions and from the work of 20th-century Italian architects like Carlo Scarpa and Luigi Moretti and contemporary ones like Amin Taha. It reinterprets the idea of the collage, using archetypal elements and forms in a tribute to iconic projects of theirs. Combining the art of the installation with the temporary architecture, the infill facade fashioned with PVC plastic generates the three-dimensional effect of a solid volume with low-relief sculptures.
