The new Terminal 1 of Frédéric Chopin International Airport in the Polish capital has been inaugurated, following works carried out by the Spanish office of Carlos Lamela. With capacity to serve 12.5 million people a year, the concourse has been renovated and enlarged to create a functional space connecting Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, also a work of Estudio Lamela, completed in 2006. Including offices and stores, the 160,000 square meters of the complex are distributed in accordance with a modular system that adapts to use needs and facilitates circulation. The new structure is formed by V-shaped metal pillars. They hold up a slightly warped roof which incorporates a photovoltaic system and is divided into stretches perforated by skylights.
