The upshot of a competition organized by the Badajoz provincial government public works department, the complex designed by Madrid-based Estudio Arquitectura HAGO – Antonio Álvarez-Cienfuegos Rubio and Emilio Delgado Martos – rises in Los Monteros industrial park, outside the Extremaduran municipality Herrera del Duque. Laid out along an east-west axis, the complex presents a block for traffic brigades and Promedio Este headquarters. Situated on the line between urban and rural, the rectangular modules rise two levels and contain offices, large work areas, and double-height storage zones. Pursuing a typology adapted to the slope of the terrain, the composition of volumes varying in size and height presents facades accentuated by concrete pilasters, polycarbonate panels, and opaque surfaces of corrugated sheeting.
