This 520-square-meter multipurpose pavilion was designed for the Phoenix Flower Carnival – to be held in October 2019 in Shenzhen, China – by Aether Architects, a local firm led by Zelin Huang. During the event, the interior will be a venue for concerts, theater performances, forums, and workshops, while the exterior will invite visitors to bounce and play on its inflatable surface. Several layers of PVC form hemispheres and holes to enable air to flow. Combining different activities, architecture, and the surroundings, the transparent volume uses the middle layer of air as structure and insulation. The inner top of the anti-surface prevents sound concentration.
