Architecture students from Zurich and Lima worked together in raising this workspace at the archaeological site of Pachacámac, located in the valley of the Lurín River, 50 kilometers from the Peruvian capital. The architects Guillaume Othenin-Girard and Vincent Juillerat headed a team of 45 students of Studio Tom Emerson at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich) and Taller 5 at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP).
Built in three weeks, the so-called ‘Room for Archaeologists and Kids’ presents a roof made of white polyester, a prefabricated structure of tornillo hardwood, panels of bambo cane, and a floor of adobe bricks compacted together with earthen joints.
The open rectangular construction – 37 meters long, 16.3 wide, 3.6 tall – delimits a central sandy courtyard with its canopied galleries... [+]
