Jørn Utzon’s design method was hermeneutic and intuitive. His chief assistant Mogens Prip-Buus describes the team’s work method in Logbook 1 (the Courtyard Houses) as follows: “….we didn’t work on the basis or around theories, we merely tried to understand a situation with all its elements and potentials and then to go on to find the solution that expressed it.” Utzon saw the deepest essence of architecture as comparable with a plant seed, which remains the same in its qualities through the changing times.
