On two continents

As happened to Soseki, many Japanese travelers return home disappointed that Europe was not what they had expected. But Sou Fujimoto (Hokkaido, 1971) knew how to find in the Old Continent the same rural beauty and urban complexity that fascinate him so much in his own land, and far from feeling the well-known ‘Paris syndrome,’ in 2016 he opened a branch of his Tokyo studio in the French capital. Arquitectura Viva now presents some of his latest works, where nature and artifice, chance and rigor, are alloyed no matter which side of the world they are in: from two large public buildings in Central Europe to a hotel in Japan and two landscaping interventions in China.
