With Fabrizio Barozzi at the helm and joined by Agnès Blanch, Daria de Seta, Manel Marín, Pedro Matos Gameiro, and Rosa Rull, the jury of the 2021 FAD Awards bestowed the Architecture prize on the 46-unit social housing development that Roldán + Berengué inserted into the former Fabra & Coats factory in Barcelona, considering it an exemplarily intelligent reinterpretation of an important preexisting urban construction, highlighting how “renovation and preservation of industrial heritage is an increasingly important part of defining sustainable urbanism.” The awardees in the other categories were: the Omar apartment in Valencia by Arquitectura-G, for Interiors; the remodeling of the Plaza de Armas in Ferrol (A Coruña) by Carlos Alberto Pita Abad, for City and Landscape; ‘Inbetween’ in Ponta Delgada (Portugal) by pontoatelier architects, for Ephermeral Interventions; the proposals for Chacarita XI BIAU by Arturo Franco, Ana Román, and Joseto Cubilla (Paraguay coordinator), in the International section; and the book Palladio e o Moderno by José Miguel Rodrigues, for Thought and Criticism.
