The architect Miguel Garay was born in 1936 in San Sebastián, where his career unfolded and whose architecture school he designed and taught in. Shortly after completing my studies I got a call from him, with the proposal for the creation of a Culture Commission within the Basque-Navarrese Institute of Architects. So from 1973 to 1976 we organized the San Sebastián Architecture Weeks and visited medieval cities of the Basque Country with Julio Caro Baroja as guide. My relationship with him strengthened in the course of several projects, such as the Fuenterrabia school and the Mendigorria dwellings. He was a complete practitioner of the building craft who had also worked as a quantity surveyor in Luis Peña Ganchegui’s office. With him I took my first steps in the profession. Later each pursued his own path.
