Manuel de las Casas (1940-2014)

Manuel de las Casas died on 7 February in Madrid. He was born in 1940 in Talavera de la Reina, where he built his first work shortly after graduating in 1964. De las Casas had a long teaching career in the Madrid school, starting as assistant professor under Antonio Fernández Alba and in 1987 becoming a full professor. In 2010 he was named the Toledo school’s first director. As a practicing architect he built exemplary housing blocks and public facilities marked by a strong civic commitment. He also stood out in the restoration of monuments, such as Toledo’s cathedral, and held various related official posts.
