Nineteen projects have been named finalists for the 2025 Aga Khan Award for Architecture. The winners will share an endowment of a million dollars, one of the largest in the architecture sector. Selected from a pool of 369 works nominated, completed in the period between 2018 and 2023, they are part of the 16th edition of the triennial accolade that seeks to “identify and encourage building concepts that successfully address the needs and aspirations of communities in which Muslims have a significant presence.”

Founded in 1977 and given by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), the prize has become a key reference for architecture in the Islamic world. The selection process puts emphasis on works that not only see to physical, social, and economic needs, but also connect in depth with the cultural values and aspirations of the communities they serve.

The 19 finalists are located in 15 countries:

• Saudi Arabia: Shamalat Cultural Center in Riyadh, by Syn Architects / Sara Alissa, Nojoud Alsudairi

• Bangladesh: Khudi Bari in various locations, by Marina Tabassum Architects

• China: West Wusutu Village Community Center en Hohhot (Inner Mongolia), by Zhang Pengju

• Egypt: Revitalization of Hiistoric Esna, by Takween – Integrated Community Development

• Indonesia: The Arc at Green School in Bali, by IBUKU / Elora Hardy; Islamic Center Nurul Yaqin Mosque in Palu, by Dave Orlando and Fandy Gunawan; and the Microlibraries project in various cities, by SHAU / Daliana Suryawinata and Florian Heinzelmann

• Iran: Mayara Complex and Community Redevelopment on Hormuz Island, by ZAV Architects / Mohamadreza Ghodousi; and Jahad Metro Plaza en Tehran, by KA Architecture Studio

• Israel: Khan Jaljulia Restoration, by Elias Khuri

• Kenya: Campus Startup Lions in Turkana, by Kéré Architects
