Eating is a natural thing to do but it is also a cultural activity, and this would to a large extent explain the exquisite attention and care that the leading chefs are in the practice of putting into the construction and design of their kitchens and eateries. For his restaurant in Lasarte (Guipúzcoa), Martín Berasategui entrusted the young Madrid-based architects Marta Urtasun and Pedro Rica (Mecanismo) with the task of drawing up and executing a project themed around fusing gastronomy with nature. Opening out to the extraordinary landscape of the site through enormous windows, the building could well be described as a warped wooden roof set over an extensive, uninterrupted space.
