AV Proyectos 117: O’Donnell + Tuomey

01/06/2023

AV Proyectos 117 dedicates its ‘dossier’ to O’Donnell + Tuomey, the Irish studio led by Sheila O’Donnell and John Tuomey. With studios based in Dublin, Cork, and London, the practice conveys its ability to create timeless architecture through the use of traditional materials combined with contemporary strategies. The four works published in the section following this reflect on the possibilities offered by metal enclosures, inviting to explore new aesthetic horizons and building systems. The ‘detail’ section covers the development of the new Google campus in Mountain View (California), commissioned to BIG and Heatherwick Studio. The issue also presents Essential Homes, the prototype for emergency settlements that the Norman Foster Foundation has developed with Holcim on the occasion of the Venice Architecture Biennale. Lastly, the photographs by Fan Ho capture the beauty and complexity of life in Hong Kong by means of unexpected lighting and geometric compositions.
