‘AV Monografías’ 238: estudioHerreros
Coinciding with the opening of the New Munch Museum in Oslo, AV Monographs features the complete oeuvre of the Madrid-based estudioHerreros. The city, sustainability, and typological revision are some the key interests of Juan Herreros (San Lorenzo de El Escorial, 1958) who, through his studio, seeks channelling his academic, research, and professional career from a global perspective across disciplines. After a long career at Ábalos & Herreros, in 2006 Juan Herreros went solo and in 2014 German architect Jens Richter (Kassel, 1977) was made studio partner. Over these past fifteen years the office has completed works of different program and scale, but always tackled through experimentation and critical distance. Their project list includes international commissions (Events Center Ágora-Bogotá in Colombia, Littoral Parks in Panama, Mistral Residential Complex in France), housing in Spain (Caracol Building, Casa Cobo, Casa Garoza), and spaces for art (CarrerasMugica Art Gallery, Espacio SOLO), naming just a few examples. Architect and professor Mark Wigley signs the introductory essay, and four texts by Juan Herreros mark the four sections that structure the twenty works featured in the monograph: Cultural Containers, Civic Infrastructures, Shared Living, Experimental Essays.
