Exhibition on Gutiérrez-delaFuente in Berlin

07/05/2025

On view at the Berlin gallery Aedes through 14 May is ‘Shaping the Unbuilt Environment – Working With the Already – There,’ an exhibition on the work of the Madrid practice that Natalia Gutiérrez and Julio de la Fuente set up in 2006.

The firm Gutiérrez-delaFuente Arquitectos (GdlF) opts for an architecture that transforms what exists and values unbuilt spaces as the key to a sustainable future. Instead of raising new structures, they reinterpret the urban from an ecological and inclusive angle. Their show at Aedes features projects in Europe that revitalize intermediate spaces through a combination of natural and social resources. GdlF acts as a mediator between the built and the open, always in a way that promotes resilient and collaborative solutions. With this in mind, the landscape and urban voids are not residues but opportunities to rethink the city in the face of current climate-related and social challenges.

Curated by Kaye Geipel and GdlF, the show is divided into two sections: The European Encounter Cabinet and The Case Studies.

In the film installation The European Encounter Cabinet, international experts share their perspectives on the future of architecture and urban planning in European cities and territories.

The Case Studies (projects by Gutiérrez-delaFuente Arquitectos in Germany, Belgium, Spain, the UK, and Switzerland) are displayed around these European voices on the gallery’s walls. They tell a story that reflects almost twenty years of architectural practice in Europe. The projects are arranged along a methodological matrix illustrating specific design strategies of the studio.

The exhibition is coming to Madrid and due to run from 25 June to 15 September 2025 in the temporary hall of the Galería de Arquitectura.
