Architecture and Life: The Arts in Mutation
22/01/2012
This is the lecture that Luis Fernández-Galiano delivered when he was inducted into the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts on 22 January 2012. It meant to be “an urgent synthesis of the state of the planet, its cities and its landscapes: an alarming but spirited diagnosis that hopefully will move us to reconcile architecture with life in the framework of our mutating arts.” From the first lines it situated this reflection in the context of the Anthropocene, the current epoch of the Quaternary Period, “characterized by the radical anthropic modification of the Earth’s crust.”
