Aravena to Curate Venice Biennale

News from the Front

30/09/2015

The jury of the Venice Biennale, led by Pablo Baratta, announced that the Chilean architect Alejandro Aravena will be directing the next architecture exhibition, scheduled to be open from 28 May to 27 November 2016. The Biennale thus seems to have been looking for someone young, committed to social problems, linked to emerging countries, and able to offer perspectives other than those of Chipperfield’s sobriety and Koolhaas’s egomania. This is an assumption that cannot as of yet be verified, however, as less than nine months before opening day, we only know that the motto ‘Reporting from the front’ makes reference to the capacity of architects to transform reality through design and to “expand the frontiers” of the status quo.
