“The work is dedicated to our people, to all those who have taught us so much, to my masters: master mason, master painter, master carpenter, and master builder; we owe it to them.” These words of Solano Benítez sum up the spirit of the installation set up with Gloria Cabral and Solanito Benítez, and which has earned him the Golden Lion for Best Participant at the Venice Architecture Biennale. Located at the entrance to the Central Pavilion, the awarded structure is both astonishingly light and astonishingly material. It has a monumental effect almost without meaning to, and the message is the use of a humble material, brick, and the results it is able to yield with few means but lots of ingenuity.
