Drawing inspiration from the nearby Sea of Bamboo Park of Yixing, this theater of the city of Wuxi rises close to Lake Taihu as a permanente venue for The House of Dancing Water, a show written and directed by Franco Dragone.
A work of the London firm headed by Steven Chilton, the circular building seats an audience of 2,000 under a huge metal roof composed of triangular golden pieces of anodized aluminum that create a play of lights and shadows the way lattices do. It is perimetrally held up by 365 thin and slanting white steel columns that deliberately act as a screen, interfering in the visual connection between the interior and the surroundings. In this way, roof and columns provide shade over the surface of the facade.
