Working for the world's leading computer technology company has always been a challenge that not all architects have been able to meet. Although IBM has never been overly concerned with the architectural design of its buildings (at least not as much as other brands, such as Olivetti), the crystalline traveling pavilion of its famous Exhibit exhibition has become part of the iconography associated with this computer giant.
The challenge was both visual and technological. The challenge was to design a building that could be assembled and disassembled an infinite number of times and in different locations. It had to accommodate all the facilities needed not only for its own environmental conditioning, but also for the most sophisticated range of computer products.
