In the Moroccan town of El Mansouria, 38 kilometers north of Casablanca, the 115,000-capacity Grand Stade Hassan II will be one of the largest football stadiums in the world and one of the new ones built for the World Cup of 2030, to be hosted jointly by Spain, Morocco, and Portugal.

A scheme drawn up by Populous and Oualalou + Choi has placed first in the international competition organized for the purpose, carrying the day over those submitted by firms like Cruz y Ortiz, Foster + Partners, GMP Architects, Herzog & de Meuron, HPP Architects, and Zaha Hadid Architects. Taking inspiration from Moroccan culture, the project presents a spectacular translucent roof made from an aluminum lattice, with an oasis of greenery incorporated underneath. The Hassan II Stadium could be the venue of the final match in the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
